Buying On Kapha Gallery
Why should I use Kapha Gallery to purchase art?
Kapha Gallery brings you an extensive selection of Haitian and Afro-Caribbean art and the finest handcrafted artisanal products made by highly skilled artisans. We exhibit paintings from Masters as well as art from emerging artists. We offer works at a wide range of prices to suit all budgets and projects and we pride ourselves on the unparalleled quality of the works of our artists and artisans.
How can I get more information about the work?
Please feel free to email us your questions. You will receive our response within 1 to 3 days.
Why do some artworks have pricing information listed while others do not?
Pricing information of our pieces is usually listed online. For some artworks, specifically pieces from the Masters, we prefer to share pricing information only upon request. For final pricing, please place an inquiry on the artwork.
Are your prices negotiable?
For substantial purchases we may offer a discount and consider reasonable offers from collectors. Please contact us to see if there is room for negotiation.
I inquired on an item listed for sale but then received a reply saying that the work is no longer available. Why did this happen?
We are sorry that this happened. We strive to keep our inventory as up-to-date as possible. However, these updates are not automatic and it may take a few days to remove an artwork or mark it as sold. If the work you inquired on is no longer available, we are happy to show you other available work by the artist and keep you informed should we acquire any art by the artist in the future.
How can I ensure authenticity of artworks?
We can assist in providing you with documentation pertaining to an artwork’s authenticity. This includes certificates of authenticity, documentation from an artist’s studio, estate or foundation, a complete provenance history of the work, and images of signatures and stamps that may be present on the piece. That said, such documentation is sometimes difficult to obtain for some works due to the very informal nature of the art market in Haiti.

Will my artwork arrive ready to hang?
In the description of a piece we usually list details pertaining to the specific artwork and if there is any special packing method offered.
Listed below are commonly used phrases that you may see in an artwork description that can indicate how an artwork might be packaged for shipping,
- Stretched canvas – Stretched or stretch canvas refers to a standard canvas painting wrapped around a wooden frame known as Stretcher-bars. These works will arrive flat and are ready to hang. These works may not have a wire or hooks but given the depth can be hung regardless.
- Rolled canvas: canvas will be shipped rolled in a tube. Most artwork will be shipped rolled. It is also far less expensive to ship works rolled.
- Large /oversized artworks – very large works may be shipped rolled. Keep in mind that larger work may arrive rolled and this will typically be indicated in the artwork description.
- Mounted artworks – Mounted works do not necessarily mean a piece is ready to hang and typically refers to a work adhered to a ridged flat surface such as wood, a metal, or Plexiglas. These works can however be expect to arrive flat.
How do I track my order?
As soon as your package ships, we'll send you a confirmation email that includes a tracking number. With your order number you will be able to check the status of a current order from the courier’s website.
I am hesitant to purchase an artwork “sight unseen”. Can I return artwork if I am not satisfied?
For many collectors, seeing and experiencing an artwork in person is a decisive step in the acquisition process. If the artwork arrives and you're not satisfied with your original purchase, you'll have 7 days from the date of delivery to notify us of your intent to return the work for a refund.
You may return any eligible artwork (i.e. artwork that is not a Final Sale item), provided that it is returned in its original condition and packaging.
The 7-Day money-back guarantee is NOT applicable to final sale items:
For detailed information about our artwork return policies for original art as well as instructions on how to return works, please see our FAQ section: Kapha Gallery Return.
Who pays for return shipping costs?
Returns are reviewed on a case-by-case basis in order to determine who is responsible for paying the shipping costs (and customs where applicable) required to deliver the artwork back. Generally, if we determine that the artwork was accurately described on our site (in terms of size, materials used, weight, etc.) and the collector is returning it as a result of buyer’s remorse, then the collector is held responsible for return costs.
If we conclude that our description or photographs misrepresented the work, or if we failed to disclose important information about the work, or if the artwork was damaged as a result of poor packaging, the buyer will not be responsible for shipping costs.
